ADULT & YOUTH PROGRAMS
These are the premier programs in Enshin Karate, a leader in the world of martial arts. This true authentic Japanese fighting art can be taken from dojo training to competition and right to the street to be used in self-defense. The techniques are quick and fluid while extremely powerful and the combinations are only limited by the practitioner. From defense to counterattack and takedown, students will be guided by certified instructors to reach their fullest potential. Whether you are 6 or 60, Enshin has tremendous benefits for all who are willing to make the effort. The following paragraphs describe what you can expect from all Enshin Karate schools.
Enshin Karate classes begin with warm-ups and stretching, followed by a routine of basic punches, blocks, and kicks. These basics are important to the veteran and novice alike. For the duration of the class, these basic techniques are used in various combinations with arm guards, partners, katas, and Sabaki training. The only competition in an Enshin dojo is within oneself, to be the best he or she can be. There are controlled sparring sessions which all students may participate in. An Enshin Karate dojo is dedicated to the traditional values of courtesy, respect, and challenge as a way to develop and improve oneself.
During their training, students polish this unique blend of circular strategy and rhythmic punching and kicking attacks combined with sweeping and throwing finishing techniques. Enshin is particularly well-suited to street encounters against multiple attackers that require the ability to respond quickly and flexibly to different opponents attacking from various angles.
Rising Star Program
The Jewett City Enshin Rising Star Program is for children ages 5 -7. This enables kids to learn about Enshin Karate, school etiquette, common courtesy, the true importance of good behavior and respect for themselves as well as others. While they develop basic karate techniques, self-defense and awareness skills, they enhance their physical coordination, strength, and flexibility.
The children are motivated to fulfill requirements by earning a series of patches to be placed on their belt to show their achievements. Good home behavior is required for students to maintain their eligibility to receive promotions or awards in the dojo. The program reinforces academic achievements, whether our student is reading a book with their parents or improving their grades at school. This is done by monitoring teacher’s reports, conferring with parents and issuing awards for their effort and success. Tasks to be completed at home and within the community are also a part of this program. These initiatives are carried over to all school age students.
What is Enshin Karate’s goal?
"Today more than ever the world needs the martial arts. As they grow older, children need to learn to cope with problems in the world. Through martial arts, they can learn respect for themselves and others. It is very important to teach this at a young age. Many parents ask for help with their children. In Enshin Karate, everyone learns karate techniques and basic human courtesy. If you teach karate the right way, you show your students how to live a good life."

Self-defense Program & Seminars
This training program is called Enshin Goshin-jutsu, a situational self-defense course for the serious participant. Using Enshin Karate’s strategy of sabaki as its base, this program deals with developing an assertive mental attitude and an aggressive physical response to would be attackers. Drills included in the training build coordination, quicken response, and develop instinctive survival skills. This program is for adults only and highly recommended for those people involved in law enforcement, corrections, and security. A modified version of this course is also available to women.
This program will be activated in January 2004 and will be taught in a series of seminars.
Children’s Awareness / Escape Seminars
This program for children deals with developing the proper mental state when confronted by a stranger. It is designed to encourage the child to listen to his/her inner feeling and teaches specific actions and reactions for them to defend themselves and escape.
Many of the techniques in this seminar are included as part of our youth and Rising Star programs.
This is a seminar that shouldn’t be missed. If you are a business owner with employees that have young children, this is an excellent way to show your concern for their growing family. School administrators, these seminars are a great way to build rapport among the families of young students.
Beginners Japanese Swordsmanship

The SweatShop Aerobic Kickboxing Program
Like our karate program, “The SweatShop” is a way to improve an individual’s level of physical fitness. The aerobic kickboxing training combines great cardiovascular and body toning techniques all done to a driving beat. Enjoy training while you reach the goals you never thought were possible.
The SweatShop program also includes circuit training. This level combines fast paced, high repetition exercises with shorter rest periods between sets. It allows an individual to achieve the benefits of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise in the same session. This is a great way to get fit, reduce stress and stay in shape.
